‘Breaking the Silence: A Call to Stand Against Oppression’

– Dr. Manita Pyakurel

Is there even a word that can capture this? Why am I labeled as female, girl, woman, wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, sister, mother, mother-in-law, friend, girlfriend, or partner? Can anyone explain why we exist? I believe you exist because we exist: the mother exists, then the child, and so the world does.

From a young age, the first thing that came to my mind to utilize was the freedom to live. Later I believed it was a crime. When I walk down the street, I was catcalled. When I speak my mind, I was labeled as “easy.”

When a women reject a man, we are harassed and sometimes raped.

Where do we stand now? The word “equality” seems to be just that—a word in the dictionary. Our menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, and menopause are seen as signs of weakness. But our sharp minds, strong hearts, the ability to make our own choices—whether about careers, marriage, children, separation, remarriage, or even end-of-life care—terrify the world, the MEN. Yes, the world is dominated by MEN who are so insecure that they suppress women to assert their superiority. They silence us when we try to speak, break our hearts repeatedly, make decisions on our behalf to ensure things go their way, and convince us to enter showpiece marriages, only to keep us as slaves. We can’t even die decently, as evidenced by the rapes of over 70-year-old woman.

The truth is, women today are dying in secrecy, with causes of death concealed, even when the evidence is clear. There is blood, semen, scars, and struggle, yet no one is held accountable.

Who is the culprit? Is it my father, uncle, son-in-law, son, brother, friend, partner? Why are MEN so brutal? Is it nurture? Nature? Society? Technology? Cinema? Pornography?

Who is responsible? The country? The courts? Society? Family? And what should be the punishment? Death? Prison? An eye for an eye?

Where are we headed? If I can’t live, walk, talk, and decide as I wish, then I am being raped. It’s not just Dr. Moumita— millions of girls, women, and even men are raped before birth, during life, and at death.

We are still fighting for basic human rights. What more can we ask for? If you are one of the culprits, seek rehabilitation immediately if you consider yourself a human. If you are an ally, join hands to grow together, regardless of any differences.

There are no differences—we all have the right to live, and we must live in peace. Say no to any opposition to the rights of WOMEN. Stand for Moumita, and stand for EVERYONE who suffers.
